Kinky Curly Knot Today Leave in detangler product review half-head test

Kinky Curly Knot Today | Leave-in Detangler Review

Half-head comparison test

Before the half-head test, I pre-oiled the bottom 7 or so inches of my hair with coconut oil, and then shampooed with Alba Botanica’s Hawaiian Marula Moisture shampoo, and conditioned with Pantene Advanced Care 5-in-1 Conditioner. Out of the shower, I let my hair towel-dry for about 3 minutes before parting it and combing it.  (P.S. I’m using the Pantene conditioner now, since it won in my last conditioner comparison post).

(P.S. to learn why I always do half-head tests, read this post)

Left side: About a quarter-sized amount of Kinky-Curly Knot Today leave-in/detangler applied using the “praying hands” technique.

Right side: No products

Observations:

Good:

  • Excellent slip during wet combing

Neutral:

  • Very little difference in definition and frizz
  • No discernible difference in softness once dried

Bad: None

I don’t know about you, but I don’t see much—if any—difference between the Knot Today side and the bare side. My take away is that it works great as a detangler, but doesn’t do anything for me neither as a conditioning leave-in, nor as a defining styler.

I realize that I may have used too little of it for my hair the first time around, so I did a second test (the sides are switched), and used much more this time (photo below):

Here are the results for the second test.  I got a little more definition…just a little.  However, I also got more of a weighed down look, plus my curls were more relaxed. Not what I was hoping for.  Still, KCNT is an amazing detangler, so I will keep it in my arsenal.

That’s all for today! If you have any questions about my experience with this leave-in, drop me a comment below.

See you later!
