Why this website exists
This website exists to help people achieve their hair care goals by providing scientifically-accurate information about how their hair is made and how it behaves; information that is always supported by references to primary scientific studies.
How it all started
This website was born out of frustration with the current quality of online hair care information.
The story starts in 2017 with a simple google search. After 27 years of half-hearted hair care, I decided to look for hair products specifically for my hair type. So I searched “curly hair care,” and started reading all the hair care blogs that I came across. I learned about popular methods (example: CGM), the products and routines that accompanied them, and started to experiment with my own hair. However, the more I read online, the more I started having doubts about the accuracy of the information I was reading. I’m not a hair expert, but being a nerd with a science degree, two big things stood out to me:
- I rarely saw any bloggers cite legitimate (or any other) sources for the statements they were writing about hair health.
- A number of statements raised red flags in my mind from my organic chemistry, physics, and human biology knowledge.
Having realized this, I took a deep dive into the scientific literature and started comparing how the popular hair blog advice stood up to the actual hair science.
I was shocked about what I’ve learned and continue to learn.
There appear to be many glaring differences between what the general public has been taught about hair by the internet and what is actually scientifically-accurate information.
That’s why I created this website. I want to share with you the cosmetic science knowledge that I’m learning, so that you too can avoid wasting money buying products that are wrong for your hair, and wasting time applying useless hair care methods and routines.
